What activities are available at the port of St. Thomas?

Ahoy there Julie, and welcome aboard planDisney - your destination for a bit of first-hand nautical knowledge and beyond!

Having sailed to the Port of St. Thomas, USVI on cruise ships for over a decade now you can imagine that I've seen my share of the things to do and places to explore while you're there. You'll be happy to know that there's a wide array of activities and experiences on the island for you to enjoy, and it all depends on what kind of day you envision having when you disembark from the ship for a few hours.

    • If it's structured time and risk-free safety that you're seeking, your best bet is to take a look at the Port Adventures that are available to book that will often take you right from where the ship docks in Charlotte Amalie and back again before it's time for All Aboard! For many of them, you'll board what are referred to as open-air safari taxi vehicles that will convey to various destinations across the island like Coral World Ocean Park to meet some marine life, to Emerald Beach to try flyboarding or to the popular Magen's Bay for some relaxing beach time in a protected cove.
    • Some folks choose to spend an easygoing day shopping for souvenirs or finding a place to kick back with refreshments nearby with a number of establishments within walking distance. Depending on which of the two major piers your ship will dock at, you may be close enough to walk to the scenic gondola Skyride up to Paradise Point for a great view of the surrounding area and the ship from above!
    • In my personal experience, some of the most memorable things I've done on St. Thomas include going on an enjoyable catamaran ride for a bit of snorkeling and learning how to scuba dive in a place where I felt safe and had so much underwater life to see for a first-timer.
You might find that a lot of your fellow seafarers use the Port as a jumping off point to head further afield to the neighboring island of St. John, which may feel more like an idyllic secluded island paradise compared to the relative hustle and bustle on St. Thomas. Whatever you choose to do Julie, please be sure to come back if you have any more questions for me ahead of your voyage and connect with our very own Disney Cruise Line specialists Tracie and Adrianna for more ideas on how to spend your time on St. Thomas!

    Your adventure is out there!
