what activies do they have for young children at the animal kingdom lodge, i heard they have stories around the campfire, etc.

    Hi Linda:

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is one of my family's favorite Disney Resorts. You will find a variety of activities to keep your young children entertained. In fact, depending on the length of your vacation, I would consider scheduling a day at "home" to explore the resort. Note that AKL is really two resorts, Jambo House and Kidani Village, located next to each other. You can travel between resorts via bus or a 10-15 minute walk.

My last visit was to AKL Jambo House. Upon entering the Jambo House, your family will be mesmerized by the dramatic lobby expertly themed and filled with African artwork, artifacts, a fireplace, and huge windows. The lobby at Kidani Village is also breathtakingly designed, but is more intimate. Jambo House is home to the 11,000 square foot Uzima pool as well as a tyke-friendly wading pool. Similarly, Kidani Village boasts the smaller, but wonderfully themed Samawati Springs Pool and Uwanja Camp water playground. The pool area at Kidani Village is like a mini-water park.  There are arcades at both resorts.

Campfire storytelling is an activity offered at Animal Kingdom Lodge. As you check in, request an activity guide from the front desk for a schedule of organized activities. Although subject to change, we found the following programs, among many others, available during our last stay: night vision animal viewing, flamingo feeding, ceramics, cookie decorating, face painting, animal tracking, pin trading, African folktale storytelling, and trivia. A highlight of our last stay was our kids taking part in the evening "Primal Parade," a noisy but quick march through the lobby led by a Cast Member where children banged drums and rattled shakers. The general age range for most activities varies from 4-12 years old, although everybody is invited to join in the fun.

Jambo House is home to a children's activity center, Simba's Cubhouse, for children 4-12 years old.

    Enjoy your vacation.
