Are there any accomodations for families that has a child on the autism spectrum?

    Hiya Myra!

Welcome to planDisney! Thank you so much for visiting us and letting us help make your upcoming trip magical for your whole family!

Walt Disney World Resort strives to be inclusive and provides services for people with various disabilities. There are many types of services for those with cognitive disabilities such as those on the Autism spectrum like Disability Access Service and Rider Switch are just a few.

I would think about Disability Access Service or DAS for your child. It is a service provided for free for all guests who have trouble handling long waits on a standard queue due to their disability.  Since you are a US resident you can pre-register for DAS 30 days before but no less than 2 days before you arrive. You log into your My Disney Experience Account and have a conversation with a Cast Member. Make sure your child is with you during this conversation. If you are approved for DAS you will be guided to select up to 2 one-hour return times for certain experiences to start off your trip. When you are in the Parks you will then be able to via the My Disney Experience Mobile App select return times for rides that have very long waits. For example, if a ride has a posted wait time of 45 minutes and you don't have a return time pending to be used you can book a return time for that ride. Your "wait time" can be accomplished anywhere that works for you such as with a snack on a bench or in a space that would be calming and restful for your child.

Rider Switch does not require pre-registration and is available to anyone. If your child is not wanting to experience a ride but others in the family including the adults wish to then you can take turns experiencing it. Just speak to the Cast Members at the front of the ride to get that set up.  One adult stays with the child while another adult with any other family members can get on the ride. Once they return the adult who stays behind can experience the ride but enter through the Lightning Lane while the other who already enjoyed it stays behind to watch the child who doesn't want to experience the ride.

If your little one needs a break from all the noise and experiences, or you need a space to wait with them consider finding a Break Area. This guide has the list on page 15 of all the break areas you can visit throughout the Parks. Some of my favorite rest areas are in the World Showcase at EPCOT. So many hidden areas, with my favorite area being England's Garden Maze.

I do hope this helps. Please feel free to reach out to us again if you have any more questions.

    Happy Planning!
