Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Michelle ~
Your trip will be here before you know it and I bet you're too excited to sleep already!
Disney is committed to assisting Guests with all types of special needs including those with
Cognitive Disabilities. They have put together
A Resource for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (see link shown above) that will give you some information that may help you before and during your trip.
You can request a Disability Access Service Card (DAS) for your son by going to Guest Relations at any of the theme parks. Cast Members will ask you some questions so they can best accommodate his specific needs. You will not be required to provide any type of supporting documentation to the Cast Members when requesting the DAS.
Here are some
details explaining how the DAS works. I've also included a list of
Frequently Asked Questions about the DAS.
If your son has any comfort items, bring them if possible. If he has head phones or ear plugs to help keep the noise level down, bring them. If he becomes anxious, remember to relax and remove him from the situation until he calms down. If you see that he's had enough, pack it up and head back to your resort. You may not get to do everything on this trip but you can make the most of everything you do.
Please feel free to visit us again with all of your questions. It is our pleasure to assist you!
Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
