Am I able to have a wedding reception on the Disney cruise line?

Why hello there Emily, I'm please to wish you the warmest wedding welcome to planDisney!

I actually met my husband on board when we were working out of Port Canaveral, and as longtime seafarers and former Cast Members I definitely strongly considered the possibilities of getting married on a Disney Cruise Line voyage! While we ultimately had a legal wedding ceremony on a ship but decided on having our wedding reception at Walt Disney World Resort last year, I'd be delighted to share my nuptial nautical knowledge as you prepare to tie the knot on board:

    • An important thing to take note of is that Cake & Champagne Celebrations are often not as long as long as the full receptions typical of weddings folks are more familiar with. With this in mind, this may be best suited for couples who are happy with a short, low-key reception taking place for an hour or less for a smaller guest count and with no major formalities nor dance parties. I personally found it very useful to look up weddings on the Ever After Blog and Disney Wedding Podcast as well as online planning groups for fellow DisBrides and Grooms to get real examples of what their experience was like!
    • To give you an idea of a sample timeline, you might have a Ceremony scheduled for 1:00 P.M. in the Grand Hall of the Disney Wish which is typically symbolically officiated by an Officer on board and follows a predetermined script that sees this last for less than the 15 minutes it is scheduled for. A Cake & Champagne Celebration will follow at The Bayou nearby from 1:30 P.M. to 2:30 P.M., where a pianist or keyboardist may play music and you may be able to add additional refreshments at an additional cost. (Offerings may be subject to availability and change without prior notice; following the conclusion of the event, these spaces may be cleared to be utilized for onboard activities.)

Weddings are added onto your existing cruise reservation as an additional package, and this currently also includes dinner for the newlyweds at Palo! I highly recommend reaching out to Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings team early as soon as you have a cruise booked since the onboard venues are subject to availability and there are only a limited number of ceremonies permitted to take place on each voyage.

In my opinion, getting married at sea can be more cost-effective compared to land-based options - just as long as your guests are willing to pay for their own cruise booking to be a part of it!

Here's to sailing into your Happily Ever After!
