are you able to use table service credits as quick service instead i.e. trade down. Also is the 18% gratuity fixed as we have 5 children which makes our party more than 6 making tipping at table service meals over 14 days quite expensive, thanks

Hi Susan!  Your family must be so excited about your 2 week vacation at Walt Disney World!  With that much time you will all be able to see and do everything on your wish-list!  Having the Disney Dining Plan is a great way to experience many different restaurants, cuisines and experiences at Walt Disney World, and especially makes good budget-sense when you have several children.  In the past, some Quick-Service locations would accept a Table-Service credit, but I have heard that this is no longer allowed.  You could always ask and maybe you will get lucky.

Regarding tipping:  The standard tip for servers in the United States is 15% - 20% at a Table-Service restaurant.  Walt Disney World charges an auto-gratuity of 18% for parties of 6 or more, which is a fair compromise between the percentages.  This is done to ensure that the extra work required to wait on larger parties is recognized. I know that the expense of tipping will add up over the course of your vacation, but hopefully you will have some awesome meals, and service which will help to reconcile in your mind what the gratuity is for.

I truly hope your family has an amazing vacation at Walt Disney World, and if you have any other questions it would be my pleasure to answer them.  Safe travels, and have a magical day!
