Are we able to reuse magic bands that are 2.5 years old

Hello Gina and welcome to planDisney!

I've always looked at my old MagicBands with admiration and kindness! Right now, they are all connected together in a ring of memories that could tell some amazing stories! That purple one over there was from our first trip with our kids to Disney's Polynesian Village Resort where we hunkered down for the night because of a hurricane! That blue one right next to it is from the trip where we met up with our daughter who lives in Japan and celebrated our anniversary with a No Way Jose at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop! I could attach a memory to each and every one of those magical little bands!

Gina, your 2.5-year-old MagicBand could very well still have some life left in her. There is not an official expiration date when it comes to their tap-and-go features, so you should be able to still use it for park entry, resort room access, and Lightning Lane redemption. The chips inside the MagicBands don't have a battery in order to stay alive, so they are pretty hearty little pieces of Disney magic!

If you want the extra features to work, you will need the battery to still have some life. Most MagicBand batteries last between 2-3 years, so you are right on the fringe of having your battery life starting to dwindle.

Here is the best way to check if your MagicBand is still active and still has the tap-and-go features. Log into your My Disney Experience account and look under "My Plans".  On the drop down you will see "My Profile" and "MagicBands", select this prompt. Scroll down until you see "Managed MagicBands or Cards" and select the person you want to check. You will see all of the existing MagicBands listed there and whether or not they are active or inactive. I'm either proud or a bit embarrassed to admit that my list has 33 MagicBands or cards populated at this moment.  I've been around the block a few times!

Gina, I hope you have found that your old friend is still alive and kicking! If not, it might be time to head to MagicBand+ land! I have an Amazing Spiderman version that finds its way to the parks on many occasions! Have a great adventure and don’t forget to enjoy a Mickey Bar or two!
