Thank you, Jeffrey, for coming to planDisney and giving me a moment to think about two of my favorite things: Disney Cruises and snacks! There are two truths with food: "Everything tastes better when it is Mickey-shaped." And "cruise calori..." I can't even finish that word because it does not exist when I'm onboard a Disney ship.
You are welcome to bring food onboard with you on
Disney Cruise Line, as long as it is not on the
list of prohibited items. Basically, any snacks have to be in their factory-sealed manufacturing packaging. You cannot bring perishable items (with a few exceptions for nursing mothers and medical conditions) or agricultural products, like bananas and oranges. You also cannot take these off the ship with you unless they are still in their original, unopened packaging.
For your question, Jeffrey, about how to pack: it is up to you based on the items you are bringing. If you are bringing allowed amounts of bottled water, sodas, beer or wine, these liquids must be carried onboard with you. You cannot check these and risk them breaking. I have packed "fun size" candy bars and chocolates for my kids to add to their
Eye Scream Treats and enjoy while watching movies in the
Buena Vista Theater. They fit well in my suitcase and did not pose a threat to baggage handlers, my clothes or my fellow cruisers' belongings. If I were packing chocolate syrup (which I haven't but just for illustrative purposes), that bottle would spend the first day in my carry-on bag. I do not want to start my cruise apologizing to fellow shipmates or becoming the reason Disney has to create a policy prohibiting passengers from packing snacks.
Since we talking about two of my favorite topics, I'll share some of my favorite finds onboard. Any chance you are cruising on
Disney Dream or
Disney Fantasy? On these two ships, you can find a glass display case with treats, all of which are included with your cruise fare, at the gem on Deck 4 called
Vista Cafe. On all five current ships, you can also find
Cove Cafe with similar, delectable treats. These are in adult-exclusive areas, but you can get them served to go to share (or not) with your family. The days they have the rice crispy treats on sticks... I may make multiple trips. And don't forget about
Room Service. You don't even have to leave your stateroom on a Disney Cruise; you just call, and the snacks come to you. I really like the fruit and cheese plate for a "small smackerel of something sweet" before dinner.
Wishing you smooth seas, tasty treats and days dreams are made of on your upcoming cruise! Please come back to
planDisney with any other questions.
Happy snacking!
